Wasabi Defense update 08-23
No flashy screenshot this week. I’ve been working on removing a few bugs and, for the most part, on thinking of a good system for controlling the enemy attack waves. In my previous attempt, I had to start over that part two times because it was too messy. The problem is that at first, a system works fine with a small number of different enemies and small levels, but later on it becomes very difficult to handle when the game gets bigger and more enemies are added. Keeping that in mind, I’m working on a highly modular system that’s very easy to expand, so I hope I can stick with this design and don’t have to start over in a few weeks.
Another reason for the lack of progress this week is that I finally finished Bioshock. I hadn’t played it in almost two months. Turned out that the last time I played it I was only twenty minutes away from the ending! The following probably won’t make any sense if you never played Bioshock and may contain a few spoilers. I was transformed into a Big Daddy and had to follow the Little Sisters, who would open several locked door for me, leading to Fontaine. The final battle with him was, well, disappointing. It was just too easy! As a Big Daddy, you can take insane amounts of damage, and with some frag grenades he was easy to finish off.
I’m gonna play it again, though, because you can play it in a ‘good’ and ‘evil’ way. Every time you kill a Big Daddy, you can choose to ‘rescue’ or ‘harvest’ his Little Sister. Harvesting gives you more points to buy additional upgrades, but kills the girl. I have always rescued the girls, but next time I’m gonna harvest them, wich will probably lead to another ending.
