Biography
Video Game Biscuit is about game development. I will discuss the games I’m working on, explain techniques I use for creating game content and review game development tools and books. I will also publish all finished games here.
I develop games all by myself, so you probably won’t see a first person shooter with maps the size of a fortress or role playing games with background stories the size of a novel here. I will discuss some of the problems and difficulties the solo game developer will have to deal with, such as creating or finding good game content, game engines and project organisation.
I have played videogames myself since I first found out they existed. My very first game was a Nintendo Game & Watch Donkey Kong game. After that, I got a Commodore 64 with hundreds of games, followed by a long period of PC gaming. At the moment, my gaming equipment consists of a PC and a Nintendo Wii.
My first attempts at creating video games are quite a long time ago. The very first one was with Borland Delphi, wich failed miserably. After that, I have tried the WinG library (wich only resulted in a bouncing ball demo that crashed my computer after ten seconds), DirectX and OpenGL with C++. Trying to build a game from scratch, or even worse, a game engine, is a very bad idea, though, especially if you’re working alone. There are plenty of good engines available, so there’s no need to reinvent the wheel.
